We’re thrilled to congratulate our 2021 recipient — Susan Russella — a truly deserving person whose compassion and dedication to others set her apart. Susan’s story reminds us why we do what we do: to uplift those who consistently give back without asking for anything in return.
Together with our amazing partners at Advanced Auto Clinic, we’re proud to keep paying it forward — one ride, one life, and one story at a time.
This year’s 7th Annual Deserving Rides event was filled with joy, music, and moments that reminded us just how incredible our community truly is. The morning kicked off with beautiful live Christmas music from the Delavan-Darien High School Choir, followed by the much-anticipated 104.5 WSLD Santa Sleigh Giveaway, where one lucky guest got to start the sleigh (a donated vehicle!) and drive away with cash and prizes.
Guests warmed up with coffee and donuts generously provided by Delavan Dunkin’, and later gathered for hot pizza to end the event on a cozy note. Huge thanks to our incredible event sponsors: NAPA Auto Parts of Delavan, Valvoline Oil, the team at Advanced Auto Clinic, and most importantly, you—our community—for showing up with heart and support.
And now, the moment that makes all of this so meaningful—celebrating our 2021 Deserving Rides Recipient: Susan Russella.
Here’s what we learned about Susan through her powerful nominations:
“Susan Russella is a single mom who has raised two amazing children. Her strength, sacrifice, and unwavering support have helped them thrive in their education, careers, and personal lives. She has always been their rock—quietly giving everything, asking for nothing.”
Susan works part-time at Delavan-Darien School District, but her heart and impact are full-time. Rain or shine, she’s the first to greet Turtle Creek students each morning with a smile, a warm hug, and positivity that sets the tone for their day. Students adore her—because she shows up, every day, with joy and love.
She’s also a committed volunteer, giving her time to causes like St. Jude’s, My Friend Linkin, ASPCA, and more. Whether she’s dressing up as a bunny for Easter, an elf for holiday crafts, or a witch for Halloween pumpkin carving—Susan is always there, spreading magic for kids in our community.

“When I was adopted by my mom, Susan, my life changed forever. She raised me with love, respect, and the lesson that giving back is everything. She’s shown me unconditional love in every chapter of life. I nominated her because I want her to receive even a fraction of the kindness she gives to others every day.”
