The 9th annual Deserving Rides event brought warmth, community spirit, and plenty of holiday cheer to Delavan. What started in 2014 as a single act of giving has grown into so much more: a celebration of kindness, a hope-filled community gathering, and a vehicle giveaway that changes lives.
The day sparkled with joy as Delavan-Darien High School choir filled the air with live Christmas music. 104.5 WSLD hosted the Santa Sleigh Giveaway, where one lucky guest got to start the car and drove off with over $2,500 in cash and prizes! Smiles filled the morning, fueled by donuts and coffee from Delavan Dunkin’ and wrapped in festive music and friendship.
We’re deeply thankful to our sponsors and community partners—NAPA Auto Parts Delavan, Valvoline Oil, WSLD 104.5, and the entire Advanced Auto Clinic team—whose support made this event shine. Without volunteers and friends from around Walworth County, Deserving Rides would not be possible.
Our 2023 vehicle recipient was chosen not just because of need, but because of heart. Each nominee was reviewed, and the winner stood out as someone who gives back without asking. This event put keys into the hands of someone who reflects compassion, resilience, and community spirit.
The highlight of the day was the presentation of a 2010 Toyota Sienna to this year’s recipients—Ron and Pattie Stowers. This wasn’t just a vehicle. For Ron, who is courageously battling cancer, and Pattie, who left her job to care for him full-time, this van represented hope, freedom, and stability during one of the hardest seasons of their lives.
Their story moved everyone present. The room was quiet as Ron and Pattie were announced, and Pattie, holding back tears, walked forward to accept the keys. The moment was filled with overwhelming emotion, as the crowd witnessed what happens when a community rallies behind its own.
Tony, a lifelong local and proud community member, reminded us that Deserving Rides is only possible because of our collective efforts—the businesses who sponsor us, the volunteers who give their time, and the neighbors who nominate those quietly doing good.
